Illuminator

In the early 2000s, a film restoration project was started at SZTAKI: the aim was to develop a digitisation process, one of the elements of which is a light projector (digital copies are written back on film), which can be used for panorama and slide filmmaking. The resulting device works with three laser cannons, which emit the primary colors of the RGB scale: red, green and blue. The merging lasers write the image onto film at a resolution of 6000 per second. This device contains the finest fine mechanical system ever made by SZTAKI. The device does not split colors into eight rays, but displays them in 14 bits, meaning it can display up to 16,000 colors. The culmination of the project was the restoration of the famous Hungarian animated movie “Ludas Matyi”, made in 1949.
